Halloween 2013

Halloween! I don’t think Buggie could have waited another day! I finally made their trick or treat bags today, talk about last minute! We enjoyed making mummy pizzas, mummy hot dogs, & pink lemonade in pumpkin cups with eye balls for dinner. Took them trick or treating in our neighborhood before we went to trick or treat at Guncle Alex & Guncle Matt’s house and then off to see Maw-Maw Susie at work. It just didn’t seem right to not see her for Halloween after seeing her for the last few years on this fun night. She even surprised our monsters with vending machine goodies. We squeezed as much fun as we could into this evening and the girls were so excited to have their friends, Diamond & Janae spend the evening with us!

This years costumes:
Bitty, 21 months, Wonder Woman
Buggie, 4 years, spider-man
Bunny, 8 years, cat woman
Budah, 17 years, the hulk
(Okay, so he threw it on for our Halloween pics, but he didn’t wear it to go trick or treating, ha ha)20131031-224641.jpg

4 lil monsters 1st annual Halloween book drive

Posted on

350 books & 95 get well soon cards! That’s how many we delivered to the San Antonio Methodist children’s hospital today after collecting these generous donations for the last few weeks. Friends and family mailed us books from all over the US and we collected many locally as well from some pretty awesome folks. We are beyond thankful for the generosity that our friends and family shared. Tomorrow while our healthy children are trick or treating these 100+ children are going to be laying in a hospital bed. Something we can easily take for granted. They will be given the books and handmade cards tomorrow. I love being able to show our monsters the good in people and that something that may seem so simple to some may mean the world to others. We are determined to raise our monsters to be caring and to never take for granted how truly blessed they are. A huge thank you to all that made this possible. We will absolutely be doing another book drive next Halloween!20131030-224104.jpg

Homemade pumpkin spice play dough

Posted on

My three little ladies along with their friend and I made some homemade play dough yesterday. All four of them ranging in age from 21 months old up to 10 years old enjoyed helping too. It was so easy and within 15 minutes they were happily playing with it and very proud of themselves! And it smells just like pumpkin pie!

ingredients:
1 1/2 to 2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tbsp cream of tarter
1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup boiling water
1 tbsp olive oil
Food coloring (or kool-aid packet)

Add dry ingredients in a medium size mixing bowl, start with 1 1/2 cups flour20131030-162137.jpg
The girls enjoyed taking turns adding the ingredients in the bowl20131030-162306.jpgit’s also helpful to put the pumpkin spice in the bowl, ha ha20131030-162531.jpg
Add boiling water, olive oil, and food color, we used about 15 drops of gel food color this time. Then start mixing. 20131030-162937.jpg And when you think you are done, mix some more. Until it becomes dough like. 20131030-163133.jpgIf it’s too gooey you can add small amounts of flour at a time. Then kneed it a bit and viola! Homemade play dough! We’ll be playing with the recipe to change it up a bit after the fall. It will last a few weeks in a sealed container or ziplock bag. If it starts to dry out just add 1 tbsp of olive oil and kneed it some more. It makes about the amount of 4 traditional size containers of play dough. 20131030-164155.jpg

Out of pumpkins?

Posted on

Never would have thought I would have trouble finding a pumpkin for our daughter’s class two days before Halloween when I volunteered to send one. Not the prettiest pumpkin, but we finally found one, phew! Bunny’s friend came over after school and got their homework done. Then we made some homemade pumpkin spice play dough & started working on some cards for the children’s hospital before cheer practice. Even Bitty made a few! Looking forward to tomorrow. Fingers crossed this rain comes and goes quickly for our little trick or treaters to be able to have some fun Thursday night!

“Today is Monday, huh?”

Posted on

Lots accomplished today! Brought Matt to work & Bunny to school. Buggie was not happy that I wasn’t going to be home to put her on the bus and that Budah was. Silly girl! Put lots of laundry away & did some cleaning through out the day. Then Budah, Buggie, Bitty, and I headed over to wait for Bunny & her bestie, Diamond, to get out of school. We were about twenty minutes early, but chatted to pass the time. Then as kids started walking, I suddenly looked over at Budah and asked “Today is Monday, huh?”. Turns out we were more than twenty minutes early:) So we just hung out and waited for the girls to get out of choir. Ran a few knot-geek orders to the post office and then went to get daddy from work. We finally made time to get the new battery for his car too. Gonna be strange to not bring him to work tomorrow! The girls were able to finish their homework in the car while we were out so they had a few hours to play. My friend brought the girls to ballet & tap today. So while dinner cooked in the crock pot Matt and I decided to rearrange our bedroom. By the time we were done the girls were home and it was time for dinner, baths, and bedtime.

A few things my monsters said & did today…

“I would never want another mama. You are the best mommy ever and I love you.” -Bunny, 8 years old

“I need to find a lady like you to marry some day mom. All other girls and women are just crazy.” -Budah, 17 years old

After writing in my new car with a crayon and not being willing to confess…
“Okay, okay, I am finally ready to tell you the truth about what happened. I did it. But it was a ‘axelwent’ (accident), I just didn’t mean to do it. Really I’m serious!” -Buggie, 4 years old

Then last but certainly not least, Miss Bitty. After 21 months of never experiencing it with her she finally boo boo’d in the tub. I think the best part was how annoyed Buggie was that I made them get out of the tub and leave the toys behind to bathe them in the shower. If she never has an accident like this again I will forever be thankful. Just throwing that one out there.

What a day! I think it’s time for a lush bath & some candles.20131028-214516.jpg

Her big blue eyes

Posted on

Made my fam pancakes for breakfast before we headed out to Bunny’s homecoming game to watch her get crowned & cheer. Then my Hubster and I ran a few errands and went to have lunch with our lil ones before we finally headed home. I cleaned the game room and put away laundry for what I’m sure was the 100th time in the last week. School clothes laid out & monsters sleeping.

I have had a heavy heart most of the evening. Can’t seem to stop thinking about my maw-maw. She would have adored these little ladies as much as she did Budah. I really miss her voice, contagious laughter, her stunning smile, her big blue eyes that Bitty was blessed with too, and those hugs of her’s an awful lot these days.

I think it’s just time for this mama to take a quick bath and get some over due sleep. Of course after I enjoy some time with my love first. I always look forward to our quiet nights together. 20131027-213458.jpg

Cleaning, rearranging, dancing, & fishing

Outside of a birthday party for one of Bunny’s friend we enjoyed a busy day around the house today. Shared lots of giggles with our little monsters. Matt & I rearranged the dining room & living room and took care of some cleaning. Of course this involved music all day and pausing to dance with my monsters for certain songs. Then we enjoyed a mellow evening with our monsters & Jillskie. We were going to go on a date tonight and opted to stay home. Neither of us slept well last night. He was at his sleep study and I was missing him an awful lot. I guess it’s hard to sleep without him snoring in my face after all. Budah went fishing with a friend today. I’m glad he got to do something that he doesn’t get to do often. It’s one of those things that I have yet to get used to living in Texas. I grew up being surrounded by water and here it seems like we have a year round drought. 20131026-225305.jpg
