Okay can we get out of here?
Posted onThis morning Buggie decided she wanted to wear gloves moments before her school bus was due to arrive. So she apparently hopped on the bus rocking the one glove she found before being rushed out of the door. At least that’s how she got off of the bus when she got home today! Ha ha. Guess she was channeling her inner Michael Jackson? She had a play date with our neighbor planned and she told her friend I’ll be right over I need to do something first…that something was to run inside and change into her pajamas first. This child is hysterical! Bunny missed her first day of school for what we were sure was the onset of a tummy bug, but thankfully after spending the day in bed she seems in better spirits this evening. Last night Budah hurt his shoulder skateboarding. So today he has soaked in a hot tub, got me to rub his shoulder, used an ice pack, & wore a pain patch. It seems as though he just roughed himself up a bit, because there is no way I would have been able to massage his shoulder if it was something serious, thank God! Though I never thought I would be brushing his hair, putting his shoes and socks on, and helping him with his belt at 17. Bless his heart! This afternoon I was able to take a long nap with Bitty & Buggie. Then tonight we decided to go out to dinner with our monsters since it feels like it’s been so long since we have been out together. We enjoyed a nice dinner at sushi zushi and the monsters were so well behaved. Phew! Before we left I took the girls to the restroom, which always sounds more like a zoo or aquarium with birds and waterfall music. Buggie looked at me and and said “Okay can we get out of here? This noise is making me feel awkward weird!”. Before we headed back home from Lincoln Heights we took our monsters for some yogurt at TCBY. Bitty & Buggie proudly sat at a cute little table and ate their yogurt together. I knew Bunny must be feeling a tad better when she came out of her seat when a song from Grease came on the radio! Then it was time to get home and get monsters ready for bed. Maw-Maw enjoyed some much needed quiet time at home, so we brought her some dinner home. Gosh I adore this family God has blessed me with! Today has been a lovely day. My pain hasn’t decided to go away yet. But I will get there!
Chia seeds
Posted onLet’s talk chia seeds! I’m sure I am not the only one that instantly flashes back to my childhood when I hear the word “chia”.Don’t worry, I promise you won’t grow a tree out of your head if you use them! Though I guess it would be nice if it made our hair grow that fast. Chia seed is a fave of our’s around this house. Do you know the benefits they hold?
10 healthy benefits of this SUPERFOOD:
1. Support heart health
2. Stabilizes blood sugar
3. Energizing
4. Anti inflammatory properties
5. Weight loss
6. Detoxification and elimination
7. High quality protein
8. Antioxidants
9. Provides fiber & other nutrients
10. Brain power
All of that packed into these itty bitty seeds that you can use on nearly anything? Check out whatscookingamerica.net for a further look into the details of the benefits listed above.
We’ve been using these magical little seeds in our home for over two years now and love them. Here recently we have experimented a little more with them as to all the different ways they can be used. A few examples:
1. Sprinkled over our breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You don’t even notice a distinct flavor really.
2. Blend them into your smoothies, oatmeal, or whatever you are having for breakfast.
3. Add some to your already beneficial water and watch these little babies expand! It’s also tasty if you add some crystal light. It has an interesting texture. Think bubble tea…only very healthy!
4. Chia pudding! A healthy dessert? There are so many recipes on Pinterest.
The ideas and ways to use chia seed seems almost endless. It is recommended that you try to work about 4 tbsp in your daily diet. But word to the wise start gradually. Maybe 1 tsp at a time. They will make you so thirsty if you jump in too fast. Drink a glass of chia water before you eat a meal. It will help you eat a little less. Have any good ideas or recipes you use? Please feel free to share!
They are weak but he is strong
Posted onOnly my love would fall asleep in a class for a sleep study. It’s been an interesting day to say the least! My pain still has the best of me, but I am hanging on to my PMA. I’m super excited about the “HLL&G”! There I go vague blogging again. But the few that need to know will know what it means. Gah! So stoked you guys!
I think possibly the brightest part of this day has been my Bitty Boo having me read/sing the same book to her over and over again. No I am not the vocalist my Hubster and my MIL are, but I will shamelessly sing to my babies! Ha ha. Watching this little fire cracker of mine dancing happily each and every time I sang for her just melts this mama’s heart! And she is trying very hard to sing along. It’s a song I have always sang to my monsters, so I am beyond happy that this is her new fave.
Pirates, grease, & ballet
Posted onAfter writing such a long blog yesterday about the last year in our new home I didn’t really feel like writing more about our day since it had been rather eventful. So as I sit here waiting for my hubster while he is in an appointment, I guess now is as good a time as ever.
It was a day home from school for the monsters and threatening rain. The girls two friends had stayed over a second night in a row and pretty much hung out all day. Bitty was busy as ever trying to keep up with them. Budah was home from work and had no plans, which usually leads to complete and total boredom. God love this teenager of mine, but he becomes a very antsy and annoying boy on days like this. Yesterday was certainly no different. I was sure he was trying to drive me insane. We have always played rough with each other. For half of his life it was just him and I. I never wanted him to feel like a mousy little boy because of it. So I have never had a problem playing the daddy role too. I mean after all I did grow up with five step brothers. Unfortunately, he hasn’t quite grasped the whole “mom just had a surgery & isn’t even supposed to be lifting more that ten pounds” bit. So his being rough with me yesterday has lead to me having a whole lot of additional pain, just when I felt like my recovery was nearing an end. Huge sigh. Again I say, thank God I love this boy! On a positive note, he finished his drivers ed class last night. He needs to just do a few simulator classes and a few driving classes through the school, six months with a permit, that unfortunately my surgeries have prevented him from already having, then he will be that young fella with a license. I’ll give the heads up as to when that is so everyone can watch out on the highway for him!
Buggie & I enjoyed some special time doing some fun Halloween crafts together. And hung them up throughout the house. We really love Melissa & Doug products! We’re slowly starting to try to get Bitty to willingly kick her binkie habit (I know this will make Uncle Billy very happy to hear, ha ha). Her doctor hasn’t encouraged us to do so. But it seems like she may be getting there on her own, so we are encouraging her to not use it unless it is nap time or bedtime. She cracks me up when I ask her for it and she will run to her bed and toss it in there and smile real big. Such a bright little cookie she is!
The girls have really come to enjoy the movie “Teen Beach” on Disney. Even Buggie has all of the lyrics and dance moves memorized! We decided since they loved this musical so much, it was time for them to see one of my fave classics “Grease”. We watched most of it before it was time to go to ballet & tap and then finished it up before bedtime. Turns out my Bunny boo loved it as much as I always have! But wowza, thank God these monsters didn’t understand all of the innuendos that are throughout this movie that I had just never realized when I was younger. Matt & I spun around and looked at each other completely shocked more than once! Thankfully the girls were oblivious! Bunny & I ended up watching the last half alone together. She enjoyed it so much that she begged me to rewind it to see the end of school fair scene again. She really got a kick out of it!
Last night was the special night that we got to sit through Bunny and her friend’s ballet & tap class. They only do this twice a year. So pain or not, this mama was determined to be there. Their teacher said the class is already half way through the dance and still have two months before their Christmas recital so they are on it! I am so glad we signed them up! They absolutely love it! Really looking forward to going to watch Buggie’s class later this week too!
One year already?
Posted onWe had five different scheduled appointments to check around our home and service appliances today since we have had our one year in our home sneak up on us. One year already? How is that even possible? So many good memories have been made. From watching the slab being poured, to picking out every tile, cabinet, & tub, to seeing it quickly come from the ground up. All the way up until the day we got our keys. Such a whirl wind of stressful moments and lots of exciting ones along the way. In the last year we have experienced so many changes. Some have become family and sadly a few have exited our circle. We are tremendously thankful for the folks we are surrounded by at this new stage in our lives. Bitty has had so so so many first in our new home. Her cute little scooting on her bum across a room (because she never did learn to actually crawl), her first steps, first words, an almost mouthful of teeth now, sneaking on one stair before we quickly put up baby gates. Now she can get up and down those stairs like it’s nothing and fast! Seeing her run around in the home she will get to grow up in. Each of our monsters have had a huge birthday party here already. We’ve had a big Thanksgiving dinner that we had enough room to invite several people in to our home for. A blessed Christmas with our children, my mom , my dad, and Matt’s mom even came over that evening. Bitty’s Christening. Measuring our monsters when we moved in and each of their birthdays. We have also celebrated many other birthdays here over the last year: my hubster, Leilani, my mom, Aunt Glo, my dad’s, and mine. We’ve shared lots of random gathering with friends and fam. In our first year my mom moved in with us. My cousin Joe lived with us for a few months while he worked at Retama. My sister, Godson, Parker, and nephew, Joshie, my B-Boo, my dad, Matt’s cousin, Rachel, Joe’s wife, Sandra, and my Aunt Glo have all stayed with us for some very special visits. Matt’s Aunt Debbie & Uncle Scott came to town and we quickly pulled together a little Graham fam reunion. My husband did a half marathon with Phil in military boots and a 35 lbs ruck sacks, this was less than a year after we had a very big scare with his health and we had thought he had a heart attack! Still so very proud of my husband’s huge accomplishment. He also spun up a small and very successful business that has been both enjoyable & rewarding. This man never ceases to amaze me. Sleepovers galore have happened on nearly every weekend and basically all summer for our three oldest monsters. Bitty and I successful met our goal of extended breast feeding. Budah started his first job. Our girls took hip hop dance classes, tumbling, and karate over the summer. Buggie started Pre-K, ballet, and tap. Bunny started third grade, sings in choir, is a cheerleader, and takes tap, and ballet as well. Budah entered his junior year in homeschool, has held down the same job for a year now, is wrapping up drivers Ed, skateboards like crazy, and is looking forward to purchasing his first car in the near future. With our four little monsters & friends we made handmade Valentines and delivered them to a local nursing home. Then with friends we also made & delivered pillows, hats, cards, and some books to every single child in the Methodist Children’s hospital for Easter before we went to New Orleans for my family reunion. Bunny, Buggie, Aryie, and our niece, Brylee went to VBS at our church this summer. I have had three surgeries in the first year we have been in our home and my family and friends have been amazing through each and every one. I have been very blessed to be a stay at home mama. I finally started using the blog my husband created for me last year and have so enjoyed documenting our life, some not so good moments and lots and lots of very special things that I will have to look back on and cherish for many years to come. Sigh. Just so many special things have already happened in what feels like a very short amount of time. It’s been an amazing feeling to start building new traditions and memories with the folks we truly love and adore. Thought I would share a peek into our last year through photos. God has truly blessed us and we are beyond thankful for the life we live and the fabulous folks that are in it. We are so incredibly humble and don’t for one second take any of it for granted! Thanks be to God!
Little is needed
Posted onA rather uneventful day around the house on this somewhat rainy day. The saints lost their first game of the season, that was a bit of a bummer. But with a 5-1 track record I’d say they are playing pretty good this season and tonight was a close game. Two of the girls’ friends are spending a second night in a row over since they have a three day weekend. Budah had work this morning, but the rain kept him from skateboarding with friends, yay! I mean that kinda sucks. I was glad to have an afternoon with all of my monsters home for once. Our family is always so busy and having to go in what seems like ninety different directions through out the week that it’s nice to have a mellow day at home occasionally. After yesterday’s chaos and accidentally picking up Bitty twice and completely forgetting the “no lifting more than ten pounds for two weeks” rule, I am physically paying for it today. The monsters seem to be calming down for the night. Bitty & Buggie are both crashed in our room and I don’t think I am far behind them!
“You are a good mama”
Posted onEvery once in a while someone sends you that message that is fully unexpected and brightens your day in ways they can’t come close to imagining. Today it was my incredible friend, Scott. He simply posted this on my Facebook wall.
Scott & his husband, Ryan, don’t have children. I mean they have a few fur babies (that I may or may not want to sneak home with me every time I visit them) and two very new (and way creepy to me and I shall never try to smuggle from them) snakes. They are amazing Guncles to our four lil monsters. Even though I know Scott can only be around our crazy monsters in small doses, ha ha. But the fact that he took time out of his Sunday to let me know he thinks I’m a good mama. Well it’s just one of the many reasons I am so thankful to have these two fellas as some of my most near and dear friends and very easily consider them our family!
This article speaks volumes to me really. Sadly so many mamas do only take note of what a mama does wrong (as far as they are concerned). Where is the encouragement? And not just for the mamas, encourage those daddys that aren’t slackers and are an important part of their monsters lives too! You really will brighten their day!

Posted onJesus!
Posted onBuggie and I are always on the hunt for our new favorite book to read. Here lately she loves reading her Bible together. I knew I would blog about it so I told her I was going to take a picture of her Bible. All of the sudden she gets really excited and ask “Are you going to send my picture to Jesus?”. Oh my goodness the innocents of this sweet little gal I simply adore her! Anyone have a cell phone number for Jesus so I can send him a text?
