We woke up early and took our son to work and grabbed a coffee while we were out. Our two oldest spent the night at my friend’s last night. Mad even landed her husband on the sofa at midnight because she got a little scared and ended up sleeping with my friend. I asked her if she wanted me to go get her and she told me she wanted to stay, and that she did. I can’t believe she is almost five years old. This was her second sleep over and proved to be harder on me than her, ha ha.
I watched “The Passion of the Christ” with my love. Something that has been a tradition of ours on Good Friday for as long as we have been together. It’s such a hard movie for me to watch, but always a good reminder of the sacrifices that Jesus made for us.
Today my friend asked us to join her family for their Good Friday tradition. So we took a ride and waited for an hour after placing our to go order for some seafood at a place called Rudy’s. I have to admit it was worth the wait and was far more food than anticipated. After I fed my family I gave two of my friends a ton of seafood to share with their families as well and she had enough to share with some of her family too.
I read something yesterday about a Good Friday tradition of sharing “hot cross buns” with your friends. There was even folk lore that said bakers would hang a hot cross bun on their wall all year for good luck, so that their baked goods would rise all year. Fishermen would bring a hot cross bun on a boat, so that it wouldn’t sink. And it is said that you should share hot cross buns with your dear friends on Good Friday and your friendship will last a lifetime, but don’t forget to kiss the hot cross bun before you eat it! It seemed like such a nice way gesture to share with my friends, folk lore or not, on this special day. So I took to the kitchen and whipped up a batch of homemade hot cross buns to share with some people I adore. All of the kiddos got a kick out of the fact that you were supposed to kiss it before you ate it. And we even shared with my neighbor when we brought some seafood over to them as well.
