Blood work & garbage pails

Posted on

Our little Mad has been a little under the weather since we came home from New Orleans. At first we thought maybe it was from being around a cat a lot pretty much for her first time. Whatever it was made her asthma start acting up and by the time we got home she  started up with a low grade fever too. Matt and I decided to bring her to the doctor and have her checked out today. I’m glad we did. Her little lungs are tricky. A common cold for any other kiddo can land her with walking pneumonia in a matter of days. So we’re really cautious with her. She was already beginning to get bronchitis this time. Her doctor also decided she’s old enough to go ahead and do an allergy panel on her so we’ll know exactly what her triggers are and hopefully be able to head off some of her problems in the future. Downside, she had to have blood drawn for the first time. Thankfully she is a tough cookie. It was probably helpful that I promised her a trip to the store for some new garbage pail cards. At any rate, she sat in my lap and didn’t shed a tear. By the end of the week we’ll have the results. She’s excited she gets to stay home with me tomorrow as well. I’m happy she’ll be feeling better soon and okay, I’ll enjoy spending the day with her tomorrow too!

Thirty-three in 2017

Today is my B-Boo’s 33rd birthday! I didn’t get to spend it with her since we were traveling home from spending spring break in New Orleans. I did however get to make tons of fun memories with her over the last year since she relocated to Tejas! I’ve so loved watching her make memories with our lil monsters, field trip Mondays with Bitty before she started school, watching her graduate, holidays together, weekly coffee dates, random lunch dates, just because meet ups at a store, tons of laughter, and just getting to be close to her. It’s meant the world to me!

Happy birthday beautiful girl, looking forward to celebrating your special day!

Last day in town

Posted on

Met my sister, Godson, and nephew at the park for a little play time before we headed to the Parish for a few hours on our last day in town. We went to the cemetery. Mom hasn’t been able to go in years now. Then we met Laurie, Michala, and Paw-Paw at Rocky’s, because really you can never have too much Rocky’s in your life. Okay, yes you can, which is why I’m glad I live six hundred miles away from daily or weekly trips there. Then we headed to our new Parish fave, the Coffee Haus in Arabi, for a sugar free french vanilla iced cafe au lait before heading to feed the ducks (and geese) at Park Cheniere. It was a fun filled few hours in Da Parish that we wrapped up with snowballs at the pink snowball stand in Violet on Judge Perez, always a fave. Before we said our goodbyes (for now) to Laurie & Michala we headed to Marietta St for pictures her Momma requested we take with our little ladies. Momma Denise says some of her favorite memories on Marietta are of Laurie & I walking up and down that street barefoot and wanted pictures of us with the girls doing the same. We didn’t ditch the shoes, because we needed to get back across the lake soon, but I’m really glad we took the time to make those special memories with our girls that we’ve shared together for over two decades now. Marietta St may have changed a lot since the storm, but it will forever be home to us.

After picture and hugs we headed back across the lake to finish up packing. Have I said how much I miss my husband and my little Najah?

My cousin Ginny and her two babies came over to visit for a bit. Which was long over due. I can hardly get over how much she looks like her daddy these days!

Sandy, Chris, and my two favorite down da road kiddos came over for a few hours too. This was a strange week for us. Typically Sandy & I are glued at the hip when I’m in town. But a new full time job changed our routine up a bit. I’m glad we had this evening together and can’t wait for some summer fun together.

This was an interesting week to say the least. I finally got my mom out of town for the first time in years since she was put on oxygen. We had a three generations trip that has been loaded with great memories. I did however have a difficult time being away from Matt. More difficult than either of us realized. I’m not ashamed to say I shed tears more than once or that we slept on hangouts together just to feel closer to each other. I’m thankful we still share a love that strong a decade later and don’t think it will be easy to pry me away from him for some time. Also, I got to spend time with my two best friends at the same time! Got to spend time with one of my oldest friends, family, parading, and exploring. It was an absolutely beautiful week, but I’m ready to get back to Texas to the man that holds my heart tighter than he will ever know! Or well, maybe now he does know;)

Jackson Square on Wednesday

Spent the day in the Quarter with Aub, Mad, Bitty, Maw-Maw, Emma, Laurie, & Michala. We dropped Maw-Maw and the girls off at Jackson Square so they could play in the park while we parked and grabbed lunch from Verdi Marte on Royal for a little picnic, people watching, & listened to some live street music. Then we did some exploring down Decatur to the French Market.I finally found my New Orleans cross for our cross wall and even found two small day of the dead crosses too. We even scored daddy some alligator jerky.

We got to keep Emma with us for another night! Paw-Paw came over when we got back to the house and took the girls for an ice cream. Gigi left for her trip this morning and we miss her already! Everyone was in their pjs early and tomorrow will hopefully be a pretty low key kinda day before we spend our last full day here Friday with family and friends. Can hardly wait to hug Matt and cuddle with my little old man, Najah!

A dozen alligators

Posted on

Fun filled day in Da Parish! Picked up Laurie & Michala and headed to Rocky’s for lunch before taking the girls to the battlefield and down to the end of the world. We spotted a dozen alligators and a whole lot of pelicans. Picked Emma up for a slumber party. Then got the girls another snowball before heading back across the lake. Tonight the girls had fun making slime and being silly. Love seeing the girls having so much fun! Only wish my husband was here to see it all. Missing him tons.

Irish parade 2017

Posted on

Took the girls to the Irish parade in olde town Slidell with Maw-Maw, Aunt Laurie, Michala, Aunt Sandy, Uncle Chris, Emma, Jackson, & Aunt Stacey too! Got a little lost finding our way. Gigi had an emergency come up and Paw-Paw wasn’t feeling well. We may have briefly ended up in the parade line up before finally getting to a spot. But it all worked out in the end. We had a blast makin groceries on the parade route! Afterwards we all went to Speckled T’s for lunch and wrapped up the fun watching Mad get invited up on the stage to play two tambourines wearing a giant leprechaun hat. It was a good day to say the least.

Our Irish parade haul:

  • 23 cabbages
  • 1 lone brussel sprout
  • 3 lemons
  • 17 onions
  • 30 potatoes
  • 16carrots
  • 9 bags of carrots
