Hydrangeas, lemons, & tomatoes

Posted on

During a trip to Lowe’s for some supplies that my love needed we decided our little ladies and I are going to try our hand at growing some tomatoes! We also picked up a lovely hydrangea for the front porch. Hydrangeas always make me think of my maw-maw. It’s even the kind of flowers we put on her grave during our recent trip back home. I still haven’t decided if and where I want a garden in the back yard. So we’re going to grow them in some rather large pots on the back porch this year.20140316-205744.jpgWe’ll be picking up a dwarf lemon tree that will be available by the weekend. Maw-Maw had a little bush that grew on the side of her house. When Budah was a baby we went over there to visit with her and she had a huge lemon (really the biggest lemon I have ever seen in my life, think the size of an orange) on her countertop that he spotted and had to have. He was too young to grasp the fact that it wasn’t what he though it was. After persistently trying to get to it my Maw-Maw finally told me to let him have it. We both laughed so hard sitting in her kitchen that day, of course snapping several pictures of him along the way, watching that little fella’s sour faces as he enjoyed that big lemon. He was just full of giggles. To this day, that picture of him realizing it was sour is by far one of my favorites of him. Probably because of the vivid memory I hold of that precious moment the three of us shared together. She passed away long before I was prepared to let her go, but I am so very thankful for the special memories I have of her and the time she was able to share with my oldest child. She sure did adore this little fella of mine and he loved his G.G. to pieces too.20140316-210651.jpgThese three little ladies of ours had so much fun helping me pot our plants this afternoon. We even potted some aloe vera that we came across while strolling through the garden section. I don’t know why I drag my feet so much when it comes to gardening since we moved into our new house. It has always been so therapeutic for me. But I’m glad I decided to share this experience with our little girls. Now we shall water them and watch them sprout. And in seventy days or so if we haven’t killed them already, we’ll get to enjoy lots of tomatoes and hopefully some lemons too. What a fun way to wrap up their spring break. It’s a good thing my love and Budah are off of work tomorrow to keep Bitty and I entertained. Because this house is going to be far too quiet with our two lil gals getting back to school. Now the count down begins until the last day of school, only 58 school days left!20140316-210733.jpg
